East midlands airport is situated at the east midlands of the kingdom of England. The cities such as Nottingham Derby and Leicester are about 20 miles from this airport. It is used as a local airport by the people of Derbyshire, Staffordshire, South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

History

This airport was being used as a station by air force in 1946. This station was purchased by the group of people of government in 1964 to make it an airport and it was renamed as East midlands airport to be known geographically as the airport of England.

The area of airport is divided into 5850 foot runway, about an area of 60 foot for taxiway, a hanger floor and a parking area for about 850 cars.

In 1970 the expansion of airport started which extended the runway up to 2283 miters and construction of new terminals. In 1985 it was first time used by one million passengers who increased the need for another terminal. In 1987 legislation required to make it a public ltd company.

The development kept on started and for extending it up to 610 meters and for making one of the tallest towers of United Kingdom, a budget of 20 million was made.

Within 8 years national express had invested over 77 million for its development. In 2000 aviation had opened a cargo facility with an investment of 35 million.

National Express had sold the airport to a group of people who already owns an airport named as Manchester airport for 241 million.

Another campaign was started in 2004 against night flights and noise pollution in the surrounding areas.

In 2006 the number of passenger using the airport reached four lac seventy two thousand and this number has increased over 5 million in 2007.
